Events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis. TEDx events are open source, local and community-driven events that inspire innovation, thought leadership and visionary insight. Each TEDx event has their own name and organizational team. Education

The Last Mile, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in San Francisco, is an innovative approach to recidivism prevention. It is the first prison program in California, and the US, that focuses on technology entrepreneurship.

Our approach is a combination of inside prison and reentry programs. The combination facilitates strong reentries in which our graduates, incarcerated men and women, their families and our society at large, can thrive.

Membership on the Board of Trustees at Whittier College is an honor, a service, and a responsibility. It is the trustees who - in consultation with others - determine, reaffirm, or change the College's purposes and mission. They approve all major institutional policies including decisions concerning the addition or discontinuation of major academic programs and major services, consistent with Whittier's mission and financial capacity.

The duties of the Board includes appointing, supporting, and assessing the president and other officers of the College, as well as approving procedures for the granting of tenure to faculty and earned and honorary degrees. Additionally, trustees must lead planning initiatives, assess outcomes, and monitor progress against goals. They ensure that the College has adequate resources to fulfill its mission by approving and monitoring the annual budget, protecting financial and capital assets, and prudently investing restricted and unrestricted funds.

Elected for up to five, three-year terms before a required hiatus year, Board members set an excellent collective example in personal philanthropy. They lead special fundraising initiatives for capital and endowment projects, and are typically the College's top donors to the Whittier Fund with their generous annual support for scholarships. Guaranteeing that Whittier serves as a good citizen in its relationships with other social, educational, and business enterprises through appropriate collaborations and partnerships, trustees are key ambassadors for the College in the United States and abroad.

Growing Up Fast is a practical book about how to implement an agile process in modern business to create the necessary collaboration between marketing and innovation for business success. The first half of the book covers the philosophical underpinnings of complementary opposites in nature, human interaction, and the workplace. It surveys business management over the last 100 years and shows how we’ve come to the “Agile Age,” which is not about big ideas Mad Men-style, but lots of little ideas to test and try. The second half of the book discusses the mindsets and tools required for success in agile work, and examples are given throughout the text in the form of case studies on companies like Netflix, 3M, Microsoft, Domino’s Pizza, and Dell Computer. The introduction and conclusion of the book set up the metaphor of the book’s title, to personify the current impasse between big regulation government and total free market capitalism. Agile is posed as a third option between the Mom and Dad’s battle between over-planning and wild speculation, concern for the future and obsession with “what worked” in the past—as both occupy our resources without agile process or priorities for the innovations we need going forward in society. Agile is portrayed as an inquisitive, experimental, brilliant child who still lives above the garage at her parents’ house—and it’s time for her to move out.
